POST FOUR
In this area there is lots to see. There is a big oak tree in the corner, with a number of bat boxes high up on the trunk. Bats like to roost in narrow spaces where they feel safe from predators, and these boxes have been specially designed to offer ideal accommodation for them.
The water in the pond is fed by the leat that runs from Bachelors Bridge (the blue bridge by post 2), through the hidden parts of the Nature park, and on again to rejoin the Caldy Brook further downstream. The water varies at different times of year; sometimes it is quite clear, and at others it can be muddy and opaque. Try and spot a shoal of fish, or a pair of Mallard with their chicks in Spring. You may well see the Grey Heron that often stands silently at the back of the pond, waiting for a careless fish to swim too close and provide his lunch!
When you’ve finished exploring the area round the pond, cross the bridge by the marker post and head up to post no. 5.
